Cremation is one of the many forms of final disposition of the deceased's remains. Other methods of disposition include earth burial, above-ground burial and donation to science.
The cremation method involves reduction of the body to its basic elements through exposure to intense heat. These elements are then placed in an urn.
Cremation should not be generally regarded as an end in itself. All of the other customary funeral services can be involved as you desire, and your funeral director will make helpful suggestions. Many funeral homes offer rental caskets for temporary use prior to cremation during the visitation period and the funeral service. This is just one of several contemporary options for cremation services.
With cremation your options for the funeral service are the same as for any other type of funeral service. Cremation is only the method of final disposition. A funeral ceremony at your church or funeral home may be part of the service. Visitation with the body present is also an option.
Jones-Pearson Funeral Home offers several types of funeral services to accompany cremation. The traditional cremation service includes visitation and funeral ceremony with the body and casket present with cremation following the service. The contemporary cremation service offers a memorial service and visitation following the cremation. In this type of service all of the traditional elements of the funeral service are incorporated into the service following final disposition. The direct cremation service offers the cremation and disposition of the cremains without funeral ceremony or visitation.
Disposition of the cremated remains, or cremains, offers several options as well. Cremains placed in an urn may be buried in a cemetery lot or placed in above-ground burial niches or columbariums. Cremains my be kept by the family in an urn and placed in a special place in the home. Cremains may also be scattered in designated areas, in accordance with state and local laws.
Whatever type of service you select to accompany cremation offers you the freedom to plan the funeral as you wish and with all the honor and dignity which you have grown accustomed to in traditional funeral services. Jones-Pearson Funeral Home offers a wide variety of cremation urns to those who desire this option.
