Lewis Loyal Neiman March 23, 1927 - October 25, 2014 Lewis Loyal Neiman, age 87, peacefully entered his eternal home following a brief illness while convalescing at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN, on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Lewis was born March 23, 1927 to Louis and Ellen Marie (Peterson) Neiman at Primghar, Iowa. Lewis grew to manhood in Archer, Iowa and graduated from the Archer High School in 1945. He was drafted into the United States Army Air Corp on July 7, 1945 and received the army commendation ribbon on August 14, 1946 at Fort Totten, Long Island, New York for supervising the Central Files Branch at the time when the headquarters of the Atlantic Division was organized. The presentation was made by Lt. Col. George S. Geanetas. After proudly serving his country in such an exemplary manner, Lewis was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp on November 13, 1946. Lewis then returned home to Iowa where he attended the Sheldon, IA Junior College, earning an Associate of Arts Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. On May 6, 1950, he married Betty Loree Leonard in Primghar, Iowa and they were truly blessed with their first son Michael on September 29, 1958 and then son, James on November 9, 1960. Lewis worked in Primghar as the accountant for Cambier Motor Company until the spring of 1962, when Lewis moved his family to Park Rapids, MN where they bought the Home Bay Camp Resort on Lower Bottle Lake just north of Park Rapids, which they operated until 1984. It was a great adventure filled with memories of all the guests through the years. In 2005, they moved from the lake into a twin home in Park Rapids, MN. Through the years he was very active, following his sons activities, and helping them with school, 4-H and other organizations they were involved with. He was an active member of the Resort Association and the Mantrap Valley Conservation Club for many years. He also served as a Lake Emma Township Supervisor for a number of years. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty; his two sons: Michael (Leslie) Neiman, of Odessa, Texas and James (Vera) Neiman, of Horace, North Dakota; two grandsons: Samuel and Austin and sister, Gladys Neiman of Mankato, MN. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Lee Kantonen officiating. The organist will be Lewis's sister-in-law, Elaine Leonard. The Star of the North Marine Corps League will provide full military honors. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Monday, Oct. 27 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and will continue beginning one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the church.
